‘An artist with a rare gift for line and colour.‘

Will Gompertz,
BBC arts editor

Nicky Basford is a semi-abstract painter whose primary inspiration is the landscape. She works in oil and mixed media both on location and from her studio in London.

Subjects include West Dorset and St Ives in Cornwall, places she knows well and further afield where she goes to walk and paint. Recently Umbria, Ischia, Provence and Scotland. Still life and the human figure too are frequent subjects which satisfy her love of drawing.

Though freely executed, her paintings are clearly underpinned by an understanding of the principles of drawing, colour and composition. This visual fluency gives her work an openness which invites us to see places anew with reflection and delight.
